There's probably not one computer on the Internet that hasn't been attacked or invaded by unscrupulous elements online. Whether from a virus, worm or Trojan, Spyware, Adware and all sorts of contaminants, all computers linked to the web have had one experience or another of data being destabilized. Somehow, some files would be lost or corrupted, information would be stolen and even systems would crash. In other words, simply having an Internet connection is reason enough for one to be conscious about web security. If you're serious about your claim that you life depends on that desktop, then protect it by all means. Protect your IP address because this is the only route that cyber crooks follow to get to you. With a fake IP, you can surf all you want and still stay protected.

We all know the worldwide web is virtually as big as the world when it comes to security breach possibilities. There will be all sorts of problems with which anyone with ill intention can make your computing life hell. Since your IP is the only link between you and a probable intruder, hiding that link could serve well to make it impossible for the intruder's plans to prosper.

By far, the best option would be to hide your IP address with an IP changer, so nobody ever knows how to get to your system, whether they're sending over some viruses, Trojans, worms or those nasty emails.
