Welcome back to our short series on RSS submission and syndication. This is meant to be a series for the new comer, so if you're an RSS Feed expert you will probably already know most of what we are going to cover today. In this article I'm going to take a brief look at some of the RSS Directories and to what extent they may vary to such a great degree in the number of feeds they have listed. More than just the number of feeds they have listed, each directory varies in what types of feed sources they list and accept.

Now, it is important to understand that no one directory contains every feed available, and above and beyond that all of the directories don't even count the number of feeds they include in the same way. For example:

Syndic8 has roughly 100,000 or more active feeds at any one point in time, with several times that in inactive feeds and feeds waiting for approval.

Feedster typically tracks several million feeds at any one point in time.

LiveJournal lists 2-3 million active feeds out of a total of 5-6 million total feeds.

PubSub tracks up to 10 million feeds at any one point in time, with roughly half of those being active.

As you can see, there is a large variety in how many feeds each of those directories track. Those are by no means the only directories out there, they just happened to be the ones I picked to use to illustrate the differences that are out there. There are hundreds of directories to choose from, and they all count the number of available feeds to subscribe to differently. Keep this in mind when you are looking for feeds to subscribe to your places to syndicate your own work.
