A few things you need to know when writing an online auction listing is that you are trying to give as much information to the buyer as quickly possible. That might not make a lot of sense. What you want to do is write all the information that needs to be said regarding the item for sale, your terms of service, and shipping and return information. But you need to do this without overloading the prospective buyer. If there is too much information the person might just leave your listing and go to the next identical item for sale. You do not want to loose would be buyer with bad descriptions.
There are so many items for sale that you want to get the important information to the buyer quick. No unneeded details or burdensome rules for the buyer to follow. If you don't do a good job they will go to the next item. Also, you don't need to go into detail about what the item does or what it is for. You are preaching to the choir, if they found it, they know what it is. Just tell them the condition, if it works, is it new or not and the size. Basic information like that works, if they want more info they can always email you. If they email you through the ask seller a question link, make sure the box is checked to show your response in the listing, that way everyone will see your answer.
In the listing you should put where you ship to, but you don't need to write how much shipping costs or the forms of shipping you use because they will automatically show up in the top portion of the listing.
