Making Extra Money on the Weekends With Turk

Friday 10th 2012f February 2012

We all need extra money. It doesn't matter how much you earn, it is never enough. You always want more money. Recently I came across this great website where you can earn good money if you posses good writing skills. The website is Amazon's Mechanical Turk.

Mechanical Turk is Amazon's subsidiary where people submit small tasks to be done and others work on those tasks. You can register in Mechanical Turk as either of following two roles:

1. Requesters

Requesters are people who posts small tasks on mechanical turk and associate some dollar value to that task. This money will be given to a person who works on the task satisfactorily. Once task is submitted after completion by worker person, requester gets a chance to review the work. Only when requester is satisfied by quality of work, reward will be paid.

2. Workers

Workers are the people who work on tasks created by requesters. Workers posses different qualifications and requesters can create task for workers with certain qualifications only. Workers are generally rated by the number of tasks that were rejected by requesters. If you are a worker with lot of tasks rejected, you will run out of work very soon. Requesters do not prefer to spend their time in reviewing tasks and that is why they always prefer genuine workers to work on their task.

Tasks created by requesters are called "Human Intelligence Tasks (HIT)". Search feature given by Mechanical Turk is pretty useful. This allows users to work on only those tasks which are of their interest.

Following are the basic things you need to get started:

1. A computer with internet connection

2. Decent English knowledge (reading and writing)

3. Spare time (minimum ten minutes)

4. A bank account

Keep on eye on newer HITs. If you are an expert or specialist in some particular area, there is always a better paying HIT for you.
